Ownership disputes, while they may arise as a consequence of derivation proceedings, are not the primary focus. The process does not aim to resolve all types of disputes regarding who holds title to a patent but zeroes in on the act of derivation itself. Correcting application errors pertains to issues like clerical mistakes or procedural missteps in the patent application process, which is not relevant to derivation. Conducting an interference, which was a previous mechanism for resolving conflicting claims, has largely been replaced by derivation proceedings in the context of the AIA (America Invents Act), so it does not reflect the current focus of these types of proceedings.
